Volunteer, Advocate, Give
The Community Involvement Committee serves as a liason between WMU and the Kalamazoo Community. We deal with all of the charitable and philanthropic affairs of WSA. Our biggest event of the year is Polar Plunge, WSA’s major service project, which occurs in March and benefits Special Olympics of Michigan. We’re also in contact with other groups like those involved in the United Way and many other Kalamazoo organizations.
The Diversity Guidance Committee works within the university at the community promoting diversity. We work to put on programs to educate students as well as celebrate diversity within the Western Student Association. We also help voice any concerns related to diversity given to us by any Western Michigan University student. If you have any questions or concerns or just want to get involved e-mail the Diversity Guidance Chair at firstname.lastname@example.org
The Political Affairs Committee deals with any and all legislative and lobbying affairs of the Western Student Association as well as ensures voting representation in state and national student governments, such as the Student Association of Michigan (SAM). If you are interested in current events or how the legislation passed in Lansing affects WMU, you should join the Political Affairs Committee.
The Public Relations Committee “brands” the WSA. They maintain a relationship with the media outlets on campus and around Kalamazoo. The PR Committee also works to build a relatiosnhip with students and bridge the gap between students and their government. The PR Committee handles all social media as well as a calendar and promotes all WSA events.
The Student Affairs Committee works closely with students, administrators, and various departments to ensure that every student’s voice is heard. We connect students with administration by distributing surveys, hosting Open Forums, and simply being a place where students can voice concerns. We are here to tackle both academic and non-academic concerns. We strive to be the link between students and administrators.
The University Pride Committee promotes school spirit by hosting several activities on campus such as the weekly Western Wednesdays. We support and advance the role of the WSA in WMU pride initiatives as well as recognize and increase the visibility of the many facets of WMU of which students should be proud.
